To understand the appeal of HE keyboards, it's helpful to first examine how traditional mechanical switches work. These switches rely on physical contact between metal contacts to register a keypress. This contact point, known as the actuation point, determines when a keypress is registered. However, this fixed actuation point can introduce latency and limit the precision of keystrokes.
HE switches, on the other hand, operate on a fundamentally different principle. They utilize a magnetic sensor to detect the position of a magnet within the keycap. This allows for a virtually infinite number of actuation points, enabling users to customize the sensitivity of each key to their exact preferences.
